PedCRIN – Paediatric Clinical Research Infrastructure Network

PedCRIN – Paediatric Clinical Research Infrastructure Network

An opportunity to upgrade ECRIN-ERIC Infrastructure to address the paediatric needs in terms of clinical trial management capacity.

PedCRIN is a four-year project, launched on 1st January, 2017, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, bringing together the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN) with the founding partners of the European Paediatric Clinical Trial Research Infrastructure (EPCT-RI).

The most appropriate treatments for children may not always be available since paediatric population often responds to medicinal products and other therapeutics differently than adults do. Furthermore, many drugs have not been adequately tested or authorised for children. Despite the need to conduct more clinical trials in paediatric population, more challenges have to be faced in studies for children compared to adults.

Therefore, PedCRIN aims to develop the necessary tools and competences to enhance the quality, safety, efficacy and ethical standards of multinational, non-commercial paediatric clinical trials. One of the main initiatives of the project is the launching of a call supporting the management of multinational paediatric clinical studies. The call follows a single-step procedure with a deadline for submission on May 2nd, 2017.

INCiPiT, as the Italian network of reference for paediatric Clinical Trials, will be part of the PedCRIN project and, in particular, will collaborate with Consorzio per le Valutazioni Biologiche e Farmacologiche (CVBF) on the upgrade of tools and databases, already developed by ECRIN for adult trials, to take into consideration the paediatric specifications.
